German Hunting Dogs Association UK
There has been an increased interest from owners in the UK for training German breeds as profficient all round hunters and specialist blood trackers of wounded game. It would now seem appropriate to initiate the conception of a testing system which would accommodate this enthusiasm. This could be with the help and co-operation of The German Hunting Dog Club , Jagdgebrauchshundverband e.V ( JGHV ) in establishing a protocol for performance testing to a set standard in the UK.
Their purpose is to determine the natural abilities in young dogs as they impact on future proficiency in the shooting field and as a stud or brood dog. The ethical conduct of shooting requires an emphasis on work " after the shot " so special attention must be given to the assessments of natural abilities and characteristics which identify the reliable retriever and tracker in accordance with each breed. These include a very good nose, paired with a desire to find and to track together with a sound temperament which is documented by calmness, concentration and perseverance in work.
